I have been fortunate to have visited Africa many times over the years and much of it during the "Peace Dividend" of the mid-late 1990s as a young mining analyst. It is simply too big and strategic to ignore, but either way, do so at your own peril. Here is an interesting book that reads like a novel, but it is just Africa https://www.amazon.com/Wonga-Coup-Ruthless-Determination-Oil-Rich/dp/1586483714

Thank you Blind Squirrel for another clear and thought provoking post.

Thanks Tom! I know the Wonga Coup story well - did you know that mercenary Simon Mann's dad captained England's national cricket team after WWII? Do you think TBTI (too big to ignore) could catch on? Love the signal content from 2 single country Africa ETFs (Egypt and Nigeria) being shuttered in past 12 months!

Any idea why Orange delisted form the NYSE?

Other Telecom plays you would suggest researching?

I think they may keep an ADR. I never really saw the point of full dual listings for most issuers. Are you looking for African telecom exposure specifically, Jim?

MTN from South Africa has a liquid (ish) ADR. You can also look at London-listed Airtel Africa or Helios Towers (mobile infra). I touched on these in Section 2 of this week's note to which you now have access (thanks for signing up!).
